Q:      How old does a coin have to be before it is worth something?

A:         There is no simple answer to this question. It is one of the reasons why we must see a coin before we can give you an estimate. Sometimes an older coin may be worth less than a newer coin of the same type even if they are in nearly the same condition. This is can be due to many factors but the most important are: Rarity, Strike & Condition. For more information regarding coin values go to our What's My Coin Worth? page.  top

Q:      Should I clean or polish my old coin to make it look better?

A:         No! As a general rule of thumb a “cleaned” coin is NOT a collector’s coin and is rarely worth anything other than its precious metal content after cleaning. top

Q:      Is old paper money worth anything?

A:         As with any collectible it depends on the specific item and its condition. Some old bills are extremely valuable. See our What it's Worth page for more information  top

Q:      Is it true that Confederate money is worthless?

A:         No it is not! However there is a lot of Counterfeit Confederate money out there. Many people collect Authentic Confederate money. Depending on the condition it may in fact be quite valuable. As with any item we will need to see it in person in order to place a value on it.  top
